Take a Rest, Urban Festival, squares and parks of the City of Zagreb, Zagreb, 2002

The spatial installation Take a Rest consists of ten conceptual symbols that rhythmically repeat on benches, forming a symbolic network throughout the public parks of the city of Zagreb.
The history of symbols confirms that any object can acquire symbolic value – whether natural, abstract, or synthesized from these elements. Here, the term “object” does not refer only to a being or a physical thing, but also to aspiration, mental preoccupation, dreams, systems of privilege, established terminology, and inner states of being.

The symbol carries a pedagogical and even therapeutic function – it generates a sense of participation in something greater than the individual; if not identification with a transcendent force, then at least presence within that dimension of existence.

“Rest is a creative pause that announces a new action, a new transfer of energy into creation: an ascent to a new level — a level that may be one of consciousness.”
