(…) The exhibition A History of Illness, Reading, Joy, Sorrow and Old Age – Metamorphoses builds on the artist’s long-held preoccupation with the relationship between body, memory, and drawing, channelling it, in this particular cycle, towards experiences of bodily change, vulnerability, and impermanence. The body is presented neither as anatomical fact nor as a literal depiction of illness, but as a place where experience settles, is disrupted, resurfaces, and takes on new form. Rather than being described directly, it is dispersed across signs, fragments, repetitions, and rhythms that gesture towards processes of change, recovery, deterioration, and adjustment. Rather than standing as distinct thematic units, illness, old age, joy, and sorrow are presented as states that touch and overlap one another, forming a visual space in which personal experience transcends the confessional and is gradually translated into pictorial language. The exhibition’s title, in this light, is less a catalogue of biographical circumstances than a map of the ongoing processes through which body, memory, and image are continually shifting and being remade.
