Melissa in Candyland, Studio of the Museum of Contemporary Art, Zagreb, 2003

The project Melissa in Candy Land or In the World of Weightless Things was realized as a family project, with the participation of my husband and our two daughters. The entire exhibition was conceived as a contemporary interpretation of Alice in Wonderland and realized in the form of an artistic computer game.

Melissa is a virtual heroine who guides us, through 3D and VRML computer technology, into a world whose paths are scattered with sweets. As the player progresses through different levels of the game, he/ she must discover the entrance to the Museum of Sweets. Once inside the museum, the player begins a quest for the most hidden candy. Finding it the player connects to the website of the Museum of Contemporary Art, where personal data and body weight are entered via a contact form. The luckiest player is then rewarded with exactly as many candies as their own body weight. The project questions the position of art and museums, as well as the imperative pursuit of individual happiness in contemporary consumer society. The original music for this project was composed by Tomo in der Muhlen.
